Winecorp has continued its winning run with two Double Gold Medals at the 2004 Veritas Awards, for its Longridge Merlot 2001 and Spier Private Collection Merlot 2002.

Veritas is South Africa's largest wine competition, in terms of the number of wines submitted. Of 1,567 entries this year, 47 Double Gold Medals were awarded, with only four allocated to merlots. In addition to top honours, Winecorp scooped five Gold Medals, with the overwhelming majority awarded to its Longridge range, including the 2002 and 2003 Chardonnays, 2002 Merlot, and 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon; and to the Savanha Reserve Shiraz 2003. The Winecorp stable also claimed 11 Silver and 21 Bronze Medals.

These are the latest in a string of awards won by Winecorp this year, with more than 60 medals claimed at prominent local and international competitions, including:

The General Smuts Trophy at the SA Young Wine Show for the Spier Shiraz,

The Grand d'Or Double Gold at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards for the Spier Private Collection Merlot 2002,

Two Gold Medals at the International Wine Challenge in the United Kingdom for the Spier Private Collection Pinotage 2001 and 2002,

Five Gold Medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles for Longridge and Spier wines, and

A Gold Medal at Chardonnay du Monde in France for the Longridge Chardonnay 2002, attaining second place in the competition overall.
