Namaqualand's Stellar Winery has announced that Woolworths is stocking their Organic Merlot 2002. The wine is being marketed under the Woolworths 'Organic' label.
"The Woolworths team is very excited to be releasing their first organic wine from Stellar Winery," says Woolworths wine selector Alan Mullins CWM. "We feel that our philosophy of Good Food is perfectly supported by Stellar."
According to Mullins, Woolworths was very impressed on visiting the winery in Trawal. Stellar Winery processes about 1000 tons of organic grapes from farms straddling the northern boundary of the Olifants River wine region and Namaqualand.
"To have our wines accepted by Woolworths is a dream come true," says Willem Rossouw, director of operations at Stellar Winery. "From the outset our vision has been to bring organic wine of boutique quality to the local and global market. Seeing our wines on the shelves of this esteemed retailer is a powerful indicator that organic wines are moving from niche to the mainstream market. We are confident that Stellar wines can compete with the best out there. Our customers will also welcome the opportunity to have greater access to our wines."
Stellar Winery believes that their strict organic policy, uncompromising position on ethics, production values and standards have been the deciding factors in clinching the deal. Says Rossouw, "our wines are made from the highest quality organically grown grapes and we boast leading-edge facilities and production methods. Furthermore our winemaker Dudley Wilson pushes the envelope and won't hesitate to take risks in order to improve the quality of Stellar wines."
Stellar Winery recently received Fair Trade accreditation, the first organic winery in the world to be awarded this certification. "This certification underwrites our commitment to fair and just labour practices and the empowerment of our workers," says Rossouw.
