Helderberg Wine Festival
Tasting wine at some of the most scenic wineries in the country is only part of what is on offer at the sixth annual Helderberg Wine Festival, which takes place from Thursday, 14 November – Sunday, 17 November in this quality wine region around Stellenbosch and Somerset West.
Fans of gourmet food and award-winning wines will enjoy the exclusive Six Senses Evening on Thursday, 14 November, hosted at acclaimed Waterkloof where most of the participating farms and their restaurants  offer wine tastings and signature canape’s as an introduction to the rest of the weekend’s festivities.  Tickets are R200 pp which includes a multi-day entrance ticket for the festival, free wine tastings, a branded tasting glass and R50 food vouchers.

Friday evening sees a change of pace and a chance to dress up in your 50’s & 60’s gear to attend  Movie Night  at Blaauwklippen Vineyards where  “Grease” will be shown on an outdoor screen.  Tickets include one day  (R150) or multi-day (R200) festival packs and a free box of popcorn to set the mood.  Seating will be provided but feel free to bring your own.  Food & Wine for sale.

ECHO (Erinvale Care & Help Organisation) is the beneficiary of the glamorous Saturday night Dinner/dance at the NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West.  Supported by participating wineries like Blaauwklippen, Waterkloof, Somerbosch and Annandale,  the evening offers a chance to dress up to the nines to suit the “Summer Smart” theme. The ticket price of R450 includes a 3-course meal, live music, a charity auction and a one-day ticket to the festival on Sunday with all profits raised going towards the many educational and upliftment projects run by this enthusiastic local NPO.

Amorim Cork’s Corklife Project , which aims to train unemployed people in creating crafts from used corks, is once again benefitting from the corks collected by the participating wineries.  Corklife  produced the table centre pieces at the ECHO event which is one of their first official projects and creates a great link between the two charities. The public is also invited to bring along their old corks to add to the collection bins at all participating wine farms.

Tickets for the festival  @ R150 for a 1-day ticket and R200 for a multi-day ticket, and for all the crowd-pleaser events are available on-line at www.plankton.mobi  (Look under Helderberg Wine Festival) or from the festival face book page.   The central ticket office is at Vergenoegd Estate next to the N2 but most wineries will sell tickets during the festival.
