Tuesday, 15 October, 2013
Pongrácz, South Africa’s leading Méthode Cap Classique, has triumphed on the international stage with a Double Gold at the Six Nations Wine Challenge 2013 in Sydney, Australia and three listings in Wine Pleasure’s 50 Great Sparkling wines.
Pongrácz won a Double Gold at the 2013 Six Nations Challenge for its flagship, Desiderius Pongrácz 2008. This was the second consecutive Double Gold for Desiderius  Pongrácz at this esteemed wine competition that included  wines from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and America judged in 17 classes. At last year’s Challenge, the previous vintage of this prestige cuvée, made only in exceptional years, Desiderius Pongrácz 2003, brought home the Double Gold medal.

Pongrácz is also sparkling in the Northern Hemisphere, with all three products in the range, Desiderius, the Brut and the Rosé, included in the just released Wine Pleasure’s 50 Great Sparkling Wines, published in Barcelona, Spain. Both Desiderius Pongrácz 2008 and the blushing non vintage Pongrácz Rosé, broke the 90+ barrier, scoring 93 and 91 points respectively.

Pongrácz is inspired by the Hungarian nobleman Desiderius Pongrácz who helped to establish noble grape varieties in the Cape used classically in the making of French Champagne. The award winning signature Desiderius Pongrácz 2008 in its ultra-chic fluted bottle, is an elegant blend of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. It is alluring with a rich complexity and teems with a delicate mousse of light, lively bubbles and a raciness on the palate. Desiderius Pongrácz owes its classic yeasty character, wonderful foaming mousse and persistent bead to the prolonged maturation on the lees for over four years.

Desiderius Pongrácz 2008 is available at all leading boutique wine stores at around R350 per bottle. Pongrácz Rosé is available nationwide, selling at around R120 per bottle.
