Wednesday, 9 October, 2013
Simonsig Estate excelled as one of the top performing natural wine producers in South Africa with a total tally of 21 medals, including two Double Gold and four Gold, at the prestigious 2013 Veritas Awards.
Basking in Double Gold glory Simonsig Frans Malan 2010, a Cape Blend made in honour of the beloved patriarch of this family owned estate, and the Simonsig Redhill Pinotage 2010, an ABSA Top 10 Pinotage, stood up to critical acclaim in this highly regarded wine competition. Simonsig Estate was one of the early protagonists of the Cape Blend, a truly South African wine, with the Pinotage varietal as a key component.

Hot on the heels of the Double Gold medallists, Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel 2010 and three red wines, the 2011 vintage of the Redhill Pinotage, Simonsig Merindol Syrah 2010 and Mr Borio's Shiraz 2011 staked their claim in Gold. Whilst Simonsig also received eight Silver and seven Bronze medals across a broad spectrum of wines at this year’s Veritas Awards, underpinning the all-round winemaking talent and craftsmanship of this reputable Cape Winelands wine estate.

The Veritas Awards which attracted 1 792 entries this year, plays a major role in the South African wine landscape setting the benchmark of quality market ready wines.

“We are particularly thrilled to see that the wines on which we have built our reputation, can still compete against the best in the business and this makes us proud,” says Simonsig cellarmaster Johan Malan.
