Launched in 1969, it was founded by wine chemist Anton Massel who had the idea of creating a competition which was based not just on organoleptic judgement, but where all entries also had to undergo chemical analysis.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition are pleased to announce the much anticipated International Wine & Spirit Competition’s 2013 Argentina, Chile and South Africa results! Our expert panel of judges have been tasting, scoring and deliberating since the beginning of July and have only awarded medals to the very best wines.

The process of awarding medals is rigorous at the IWSC – view our judging video here to see why. Those that achieve a certain score from the judges are sent for chemical analysis; an important step considering that in some instances, high scoring wines can be completely rejected.

South Africa fared very well and the list of results can be located here.
