For those that have always had a soft spot for Shiraz, there is going to be an alluring collection of wines to choose from. New vintages, staunch favourites, and proud winners of local and international awards will all be vying for attention. In the light of the first Shiraz SA Wine Challenge that was launched earlier this year, this will also be the ideal opportunity to taste the competition’s 12 winning wines and eight runner-ups. The Shiraz Showcase takes place between 17:30 and 20:30 in the Vineyard Hotel’s plush Summerhouse and Camphor conference venues. Tickets at R120.00 per person can be purchased on line from Webtickets (www.webtickets.co.za). Tickets include a stylish tasting glass as well as a brochure with interesting and technical information about the wines that are on show. Persons interested in attending the event are advised to rather buy their tickets beforehand as a limited number of tickets will be available. Winter is the time for red wine and the Vineyard Hotel’s chefs will be preparing a special selection of snacks to complement Shiraz. This is not going to be your run-of-the-mill tasting but promises to be a food and wine experience second to none. Wine Concepts, the renowned retail shop dealing in fine wines, will once again offer a shop-at-show facility. This will enable guests to order any of the wines they sampled during the course of the evening. Wine Concepts will deliver free of charge within the Peninsula (up to Durbanville), making this a most attractive proposition for anyone with a passion for Shiraz.
