The Cap Classique Association
The Cap Classique Association is proud to announce that Amorim Cork SA has secured and sponsored Jaume Gramona from CAVA Gramona to be at their 4th Technical Day which will be held on Tuesday 23rd July at the Joostenberg Conference Center.
“I am very excited and looking forward to see Jaume in South Africa as I had the privilege to meet him at the 2nd International Sparkling Wine Symposium in London in 2011. He will be presenting a paper on: Autolysis and repercussions on the sensorial analysis of bottle fermented sparkling wines which will be followed by a tasting of his research” – Pieter Ferreira – Chairman of Cap Classique Producers’ Association.

Jaume Gramona is part of the 5th generation of winemakers at CAVA Gramona in Spain. He obtained a “Diplôme National d’Enologie” from the University of Dijon (Burgundy) and then Professor of Sparkling Wines at the University of Tarragona, Spain. Today he is the President and Technical Director of de Cavas Gramona (a renowned cava producer) and also President of Innovi, a cluster of wine producers in the region of Cataluña. He is currently also the President of the Institute of Cava and the Vocal at the Counsel Regulator of Cava. He also is Lecturer at the Faculty of Oenology, Universitat Rovira I, Spain.

In his own words he describes his wines: “In the wines, we seek the increased expression of a land of exceptional ability and variation as well as the preservation of the tradition of the wines of our land. We know, on the other hand, to lead the search for knowledge to improve the work in the vineyard and in the cellar ".

Jaume’s visit to South Africa is made possible by Amorim SA, the South African affiliate of Portuguese company Amorim, the world’s largest producer of cork stoppers. Amorim is a long-time partner of the MCC Association and the South African wine industry as a whole, not only enabling us to host speakers such as Jaume, but also as sponsor of the Amorim MCC Challenge, one of the highlights in the South African wine calendar.
