Last week the M•A•N team received the wonderful news that our MAN Vintners Chardonnay 2006 received a GOLD MEDAL in the Museum Class Chardonnay category at the prestigious Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2013.
“I suppose it might raise a few eyebrows that M•A•N did well in the Museum Class for a Chardonnay. But it shouldn't: good wines are the result of good vineyards first and careful winemaking second and these are two things we have been passionately trying to bring to our M•A•N wines from the beginning,” says José Conde, founding partner at M•A•N.

“Why does a wine age well? The specifics are a mystery, but there is a general truth: good vineyards, farmed well. This was made from several low-yielding, un-irrigated vineyards in the Perdeberg area. It sounds a bit warm for good Chardonnay, but a majority of the grapes were from vineyards close to Durbanville that are fairly cool and had an excellent natural acidity. The wine was given extended lees contact which helped to build a bit of richness.”

“All of our M•A•N wines are made from good quality, low-yielding, mostly un-irrigated vineyards from the Perdeberg/Agter-Paarl area. We have been consistently impressed by how well the wines age. I believe this is just our first museum class winner!”

While we have been sold out on this wine for some time now, the good news is that we have some stock available and the M•A•N Chardonnay 2006 will be available for tasting at the 2013 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show Public Tastings in Johannesburg on the 7th of June 2013 and Cape Town on the 13th of June 2013.
