Wines in Nederburg's popular Winemaster's Reserve range have earned scores ranging from 93 to 85, plus three gold medals and six best buy titles at the 2013 World Wine Championships, it was announced in Chicago, US today (May 7).
Run by the highly respected Beverage Tasting Institute, the annual championships focus on wines selling for US$20 and below.

Top 2012 vintage performers from Nederburg were the Special Late Harvest, with a score of 93, Chardonnay, with 91 and Sauvignon Blanc, with 90. All won gold medals and were ranked as "exceptional".

The 2012 Lyric, 2011 Chenin Blanc and 2010 Pinotage were also rated best buys and scored either 89 or 88, to win silver. The 2010 Shiraz took silver with a score of 85. Wines scoring between 89 and 85 are deemed "highly recommended" by the organisers.

"It's great to earn the affirmation for our wines in the US that is becoming an increasingly important market for us," said global marketing manager Lynette Harris. "Historically our international awards have come mostly from Europe and the UK, so we are very happy to be extending our reputation."

Nederburg is South Africa's most awarded winery. Last year it was judged the most successful South African producer at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London.
