For over 300 years Morgenster has attracted and inspired people through its blend of beautiful surroundings, excellent terroir and a manor house recognised as one of the great houses of the Western Cape. Not only do they produce award-winning wines, but also world famous olive oil.
Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate in Somerset West, founded in 1711, has an exceptional terroir which was recognised by Italian Giulio Bertrand when he bought the farm in 1992. Working with wine consultant Pierre Lurton of Chateau Cheval Blanc, Bertrand set out to produce world class Bordeaux-styled red blends which age well. Decades later Morgenster’s cellar showcases its early vintages alongside newer offerings for a unique tasting experience.
Morgenster Extra Virgin Olive Oil is also highly awarded, including Best Blended Olive Oil in the world L’Extravergine 2006.The 2010-2013 editions of the Flos Olei Guide to the world’s best extra virgin olive oils rate it as one of the top seven in the world for consistent quality at an exceptionally high level, having given it 97 out of 100 points for four years running.
