Camissa is the Khoi San name for Table Mountain meaning a “place of sweet water”, and embodies the wine farm’s gratitude for being blessed with a pure spring water source to nourish its vines. Camissa’s beautifully designed label depicts the fountain sculpture in the middle of the Dolphin Pool at the Castle of Good Hope. In the late 1790s, Lady Anne Barnard made sketches and descriptions of the original Dolphin Pool. These were used in 1982 to reconstruct the beautiful fountain that once flowed with the sweet waters of Table Mountain. A blend of the Muscat de Frontignan and Mourvedre varieties, Camissa arrests the nose with rose petals, scented pelargonium and fresh red fruits of the earth – appearing sweet at first, but finishing completely dry. In celebration of National Water Week, enjoy your own bottle of ‘sweet water’. Camissa 2011 is now available from Avondale at R129 a bottle. Visit www.avondalewine.co.za
