Twenty farms offer visitors wines from a different farm every week
The Wine Desk has extended its services to members and wine lovers alike by opening a second outlet at Canal Walk to coincide with the second anniversary of the launch of the Wine Desk at the Waterfront.

'The focus of the Wine Desk at Canal Walk will differ from that of the Waterfront. Instead of arranging wine tours, the Wine Desk at Canal Walk will offer wine tastings and provide advice on visiting and maps to the winelands. As the tastings will be presented by staff from the participating wine farms, visitors will be able to enjoy a personal wine tasting on the spot,' explains Ligia de Coito, founder and owner/manager of the Wine Desk.

According to Annette Ashley, tourism manager at Canal Walk, the Wine Desk is a prestigious addition to the centre. 'The centre is committed to offering a world-class shopping experience and as interest in South African wines and the Cape winelands as a tourism destination across the globe are set to continue growing, we are delighted to welcome the Wine Desk on board.

Ligia is actively involved in promoting these industries and we believe her experience and, more importantly, her passion for wine makes her the ideal person to operate the centre's first permanent wine tasting venue.'

The Wine Desk is situated at the Visitors' Information Centre at Entrance 3 inside Canal Walk. The centre already offers a wide range of services such as booking tours and short excursions, and a shuttle service to and from the Cape Town CBD.

Boland Kelder, KWV, Nederburg, Durbanville Hills, Spier, Kaapzicht and Seidelberg are just some of the 20 wine farms whose wines will be on display at Canal Walk. Each will get a turn to staff the Wine Desk for a week at a time with handovers taking place Thursdays to offer weekend visitors the opportunity of tasting wines from a different farm every week.

The roster for the year is available at the Wine Desk at Canal Walk and the wine farm for the week will be advertised weekly on www.wine.co.za and in Canal Walk's What's On Guide, local newspapers and on the large display screens in the promotions and food courts inside the shopping centre. The tastings are complimentary and will be conducted daily from 12:00 to 19:00.
