For the first time this wine will also include some grapes from the Malmesbury area

Fleur du Cap, one of South Africa’s premier and best-known wine brands, has just released the 2002 vintage of its superb Shiraz.

The majority of grapes for the Fleur du Cap Shiraz 2002 are from vineyards in the Bottelary Hills and the foothills of the Helderberg Mountain, but for the first time this wine will also include some grapes from the Malmesbury area, a region showing huge promise for making expressive red wines. Matured in oak casks for 18 months this Shiraz is intense bright ruby in colour.

Cellarmaster Coenie Snyman describes the wine as, 'attractive on the nose with traces of smoked leather spice and an earthy background with a plummy fruity palate complemented by delicate oak flavours.' This medium-bodied Shiraz that retails at about R45 is the perfect match for grilled beef, roast lamb and venison but goes equally well with duck and quail.
