Top South African Wine chosen for Oprah’s 50th birthday bash
Waterford Wines is delighted to announce that the 2001 Kevin Arnold Shiraz was chosen to accompany the main course at Oprah Winfrey’s much hyped, ‘Gold’ themed 50th birthday party which was held on Saturday, 31 January.

The star-studded bash of the talk show maven was held at a friend’s private estate in California. Among the celebrities at the party were Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, Tom Hanks and Salma Hayek.

Says Waterford Winemaker Kevin Arnold: ‘Oprah is an icon of modern society and has been a long time supporter of South Africa from a social perspective. We are thrilled that our wine was chosen to celebrate the birthday of this remarkable woman.’

The Shiraz was recently awarded 94 points by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Noted reviewer and writer Joshua Greene writes: ‘the first sensation is of a deep red velvet nap, a temptation based on textural nuance: smooth, luscious, sturdy, athletic. It’s less an evocation of fruit than of the African veld, the juicy flavor sophisticated by wind-blown flowers and herbs.’
