Peter May will be the guest of honour
Once again Peter May - Secretary of the World-Wide Pinotage Club - and his wife, Joan, will be visiting from London and will be guest of honour at our annual function (now in its 3rd year) to celebrate South Africa's own grape variety. It will be held on Wednesday 18 February in our cellar in Observatory staring at 6.30pm.

In the November 2003 Club Pinotage Newsletter, Peter May lists the ABSA Top Ten Pinotages and makes the point that since the inception of this annual competition in 1997, L'Avenir Pinotage has been the most frequent awardee with 6 appearances in the Top Ten (followed by Kanonkop and Uiterwyk with 5 appearances each). We will honour L'Avenir Estate and long-standing winemaker Francois Naudé by presenting a flight of L'Avenir Pinotages from 1995 to 2002 (including the marvelous CWG Auction Reserve 2002).

In a 2nd flight of maybe 8 to 10 wines, we will show pairs (from the excellent 2001 & 2002 vintages) of exciting Pinotages making international names for themselves and/or gracing the 2002/2003 ABSA Top Ten lists - tasted blind.

Dinner will follow with yet more Pinotage. The all-inclusive price for the evening is R275 per person.
