Growing something that lasts

Paul Clüver
A season of milestones, new beginnings, and shared moments around the table.

There is a sense of optimism that arrives with spring in Elgin.

The orchards are in bloom, the vineyards are growing with renewed energy, and around the farm there is a quiet anticipation for what lies ahead. It is a season that reminds us that the most meaningful things take time. Great wines, thriving vineyards, lasting relationships, and memorable meals are all built gradually, with care and patience.

This month, we're celebrating a few milestones on the estate. From an important achievement in South African winemaking to planting vineyards for future generations and marking two years of BLOEM, these stories are all connected by a shared belief in building something that endures.

Celebrating excellence at the 2026 CWG Auction

Few people have shaped the story of Paul Clüver Family Wines as profoundly as Andries Burger.

Since crafting our first vintage in our own cellar in 1997, Andries has helped define not only the character of our wines, but also Elgin's reputation as one of South Africa's leading cool-climate wine regions.

This year marks his 15th anniversary as a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild, a remarkable achievement that reflects decades of dedication, curiosity and craftsmanship. While accolades and milestones are worth celebrating, it is Andries' unwavering commitment to expressing the unique character of Elgin that has left the most enduring mark.

We are incredibly proud of this milestone and grateful for the passion, knowledge and vision he continues to bring to every vintage.

Planting For Generations To Come

Some of the most important work on a wine farm is done with the future firmly in mind.

Earlier this season, members of our team gathered overlooking the tasting room to mark out new vineyard plantings. Years will pass before these young vines reach their full potential, yet every vineyard begins with a vision and a commitment to those who will come after us.

Standing in freshly prepared soil, it was impossible not to think about all the vintages, visitors and memories these vineyards will witness in the years ahead.

As these vines take root, they become part of a much longer story, one that reflects our confidence in Elgin, our respect for the land and our commitment to future generations.

Two years around the table at BLOEM

This week, BLOEM celebrated its second birthday, giving us the opportunity to reflect on what the restaurant has become in a relatively short space of time. What began as an idea has grown into a place where visitors and locals alike gather to enjoy honest food, good wine and the warm hospitality that defines life on the farm.

Recently, Chef Carla introduced a refreshed menu centred around generous country plates. The food remains thoughtful and seasonal but now feels even more rooted in its surroundings. Simple, fresh and deeply suited to an Elgin farm, these are dishes designed to be shared with friends and family, or enjoyed all to yourself.

This year also brought special recognition when BLOEM was awarded a One Star rating at the 2026 Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards, a wonderful acknowledgement of the team's commitment to exceptional food, wine and hospitality.

As BLOEM enters its third year, we are grateful to every guest who has joined us for a meal, celebrated a special occasion, or simply paused to enjoy the view across the vineyards.

Here's to the next chapter.
