Boplaas Family Vineyards has once again affirmed its standing among South Africa’s leading wine and spirits producers, earning three Double Gold medals, seven Gold medals and two silver medals at the 2026 Veritas Awards.
One of South Africa’s most prestigious and longest-running wine competitions, Veritas has recognised excellence in the country’s wine industry since 1990. For Boplaas, these latest accolades continue a remarkable history at the awards, where the sixth-generation family estate has built a reputation for excellence across its wines, Cape fortified wines and potstill brandies.
This year’s Double Gold medals went to the Boplaas 20-Year-Old Potstill Brandy, Cape Vintage Reserve 2021 and Cape Vintage Reserve 2006. The results highlight the estate’s depth of expertise, from traditional potstill distilling to the production of exceptional Cape Vintage Ports with the potential to mature gracefully over decades.
Seven further Gold medals recognised the quality and diversity of the Boplaas portfolio. The winners were Ring of Rocks 2024, Touriga Nacional Family Reserve 2022, Cape Vintage Reserve 2024, Cape Vintage Reserve 2023, Cape Vintage Reserve 2015, Cape Tawny Port NV and Hanepoot 1932 Block 2024.
The strong showing across multiple vintages of Cape Vintage Reserve is particularly significant, reflecting the consistency and longevity that have become hallmarks of Boplaas’s fortified wine programme. From younger releases to older vintages, the results demonstrate the estate’s ability to produce wines that express both the distinctive character of the Klein Karoo and the remarkable ageing potential of traditional Cape fortified wines.
Boplaas’s success at Veritas is built on generations of family commitment to quality and innovation. Situated at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains in Calitzdorp, the estate has been producing wine and distilling spirits since 1880. Its winemaking tradition is carried forward by sixth-generation family winemaker Margaux Nel, whose expertise includes a Master of Science degree from Stellenbosch University specialising in Touriga Nacional.
Boplaas’scommitment to Portuguese grape varieties, traditional winemaking techniques and distinctive Cape fortified wine styles has helped establish Boplaas as one of South Africa’s foremost producers in this category. Its portfolio also encompasses award-winning brandies, whiskies and other spirits, reflecting a heritage that extends well beyond the cellar.
These latest Veritas results add to Boplaas’s extensive collection of national and international accolades, reinforcing the family’s enduring pursuit of excellence across generations.
