South Africa’s oldest continuous wine-producing estate, Groot Constantia, has announced a new CEO as Jean Naudé prepares to retire in November after 24 years leading the business.

Groot Constantia, which has an uninterrupted history of winemaking since 1685, is readying itself for a new chapter. Current CEO Jean Naudé will retire on 30 November, with Dr Edo Heyns set to take over the reins, with a handover period starting from next month.

New appointment Heyns has a raft of experience in the wine industry, including having served as the CEO of Franschhoek estate Allée Bleue since March 2024, overseeing everything from production and finance to HR, marketing and sales, as well as growing the brand in international wine markets.

He also previously held senior roles at Advini South Africa, a subsidiary of the French AdVini International wine group, which owns a number of South African estates including Ken Forrester Vineyards and Stellenbosch Vineyards.
