There is more than one way to enjoy exceptional Cap Classique. After more than four decades of making it, Villiera's Cap Classique story has grown well beyond a single style.

More than 40 years in the making

Villiera Wines made its first bottle-fermented sparkling wine in 1984, when the South African sparkling wine category was still relatively small.

More than four decades later, Cap Classique has grown into one of the country’s most dynamic wine categories. Villiera has grown with it, learning, refining and exploring what is possible, one vintage at a time.

Time still matters

There are few shortcuts when making Cap Classique. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, followed by time on the lees before the wine is disgorged and released. Decisions made in the cellar today may only reveal their full result years later.

That combination of patience, precision and anticipation is still part of what makes Cap Classique so rewarding to produce.

More than one expression

Cap Classique is not a single style. Our own range reflects just how varied it can be – from the classic freshness of Tradition and the drier style of Brut Natural to the distinctive character of Villiera Gold.

Each has its own personality, while remaining unmistakably part of the Villiera Cap Classique family.

From 14 members to over 10 million bottles

When the Cap Classique Association was established in 1992, it had just 14 members. Today, it has 112 members and more than 250 producers who collectively produce over 10 million bottles of Cap Classique each.

With that growth has come greater diversity, shared knowledge and attention to quality. Villiera is proud to be part of this journey.

More than 40 years after making our first bottle-fermented sparkling wine, we are still learning, refining and excited about what comes next.
