Babylonstoren
A Puff Adder-inspired installation will bring the spirit of Babylonstoren's garden to Johannesburg with a curated selection of scented body and bath products, homeware, and edible gifts from 1-14 September.

This spring, Babylonstoren will transform Hyde Park Corner with "Babylonstoren in Bloom" – an installation inspired by the farm’s distinctive Puff Adder walkway and the vivid beauty of clivias in flower.

To coincide with Hyde Park Corner’s annual clivia display, the installation will offer visitors a glimpse into the living, seasonal world of Babylonstoren. Botanical elements and considered details will evoke a little of the farm’s garden in the heart of Johannesburg, creating a richly layered setting in which nature, design and the beauty come together.

The Puff Adder-inspired installation will complement the clivia display with a curated selection of Babylonstoren’s iconic scented home, bath and body products, which visitors will be invited to sample and purchase.

“From hand and body products to room sprays and candles, the selection invites visitors to experience the garden through scent and take a little of the farm home with them,” says Suzanne Vermaas, who leads Babylonstoren’s bath and body product development.

Home fragrance, linen, décor, honey and gift-ready favourites from the farm will also be available.

A winding garden landmark, reimagined

The installation takes its inspiration from the Puff Adder, a shady, 70-metre walkway that winds along the banks of a stream in Babylonstoren’s garden.

Designed by garden architect Patrice Taravella, the dome-shaped structure is formed from fine balau latticework and follows a series of gentle, meandering bends. Its intricate mosaic floor, designed by landscape architect Katie Lewis, comprises more than 360000 river pebbles and took over nine months to lay. Hidden within the design is a playful detail – a mouse resting in the snake’s stomach.

At Babylonstoren, the Puff Adder walkway changes with the seasons. Aloes and rocks take their place in winter, followed by clivias in spring, roses, berries and bonsai in summer, and pumpkins in autumn. Clivias are a much-anticipated spring highlight at the farm, bringing a brilliant burst of colour to the cool shade of the walkway.

The Hyde Park Corner installation reimagines the Puff Adder on a smaller scale, capturing the walkway’s sense of seasonality, discovery and delight while celebrating one of spring’s most distinctive flowers.

From the garden to the home

The garden inspires everything grown, sourced and made at Babylonstoren. Its influence reaches beyond the orchards and vegetable beds into products that bring beauty and pleasure to everyday living.

Grounded in the farm’s heritage and shaped by an eye for innovation, each product reflects Babylonstoren’s contemporary, unhurried way of life. Many are made by skilled hands using materials and ingredients grown or created on the farm.

Dress your table with crisp linen and distinctive green crockery, fill a handcrafted vase with spring clivias, light a subtly scented candle, taste pantry favourites or pour a glass of award-winning Babylonstoren wine. Each brings a sensory expression of the farm into your home.

Visitors to the Babylonstoren in Bloom installation will find a thoughtful selection to discover, sample, and take home. Products are also available from shop.babylonstoren.com for delivery to your door.
