Fryer's Cove
Beyond the familiar, where the land meets the untamed Atlantic, a remarkable Sauvignon Blanc has claimed its place among South Africa’s finest.

Fryer’s Cove is immensely proud to announce that the Bamboes Bay Hollebaksstrandfontein Sauvignon Blanc 2025 has been named the National Champion in the Sauvignon Blanc category at SA Terroir Wine Awards.

This is more than an accolade. It is recognition of an origin unlike any other.

Bamboes Bay lies on the edge of the world, just 540 metres from the icy Atlantic Ocean on South Africa’s remote Cape West Coast.

Here, relentless coastal winds sweep across limestone-laced Hutton soils. Ocean mist settles over the vines and the constant whisper of the sea becomes part of every vintage. As South Africa’s smallest demarcated wine ward, Bamboes Bay is more than a place on the map - it is a viticultural frontier.

The SA Terroir Wine Awards celebrate wines that express the distinctive character of their origin. For our Bamboes Bay Hollebaksstrandfontein Sauvignon Blanc 2025 to receive this honour is a powerful affirmation of the extraordinary place from which it comes.

The 2025 vintage was shaped by nature in rare balance. Cool days and drifting ocean mist slowed the ripening season, allowing the grapes to develop remarkable clarity, concentration and freshness. Harvested at first light on 28 February, the small, intensely flavoured bunches arrived carrying the unmistakable energy of the coast.

Guided by nature and crafted with minimal intervention, the wine underwent spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts. It was then matured for 10 months in 500-litre Austrian oak barrels and 400-litre ceramic amphorae - a meeting of ancient vessels, bold exploration and contemporary craftsmanship.

This award belongs to the wild landscape, the vines that endure it and the people who continue to explore what is possible on this extraordinary coastline.

This wine may be irresistible now, but the patient adventurer will be rewarded. Over the next seven years, the wine is expected to gain even greater complexity, depth and soul.

For those drawn to authenticity, discovery and wines with a true sense of place, the invitation is clear: Journey west. Venture beyond the familiar.
