Winemaker Charles Lourens has always had a soft spot for Merlot, drawn to its elegance, balance and effortless drinkability. The newly released 2024 Zevenwacht Estate Merlot captures all three.
Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and a touch of rhubarb unfold alongside subtle notes of tobacco and graphite. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, the wine combines plush tannins and generous dark fruit with a long, savoury finish.
Refined without being reserved, it is a natural choice for an unhurried winter dinner, shared with family or good friends. As Charles says, “You know you’re in great company when opening a bottle inspired by Bordeaux.”
