Winter at Delheim Wine Estate brings with it the chance discover the fascinating world of wild mushrooms in the forest.

Winter at Delheim Wine Estate brings with it one of the Cape’s most anticipated seasonal experiences – the chance to step into the forests and discover the fascinating world of wild mushrooms.

On Friday, 3 July, and Saturday, 4 July 2026, mushroom lovers and nature enthusiasts are invited to join Delheim in its mountain pine forests for a guided mushroom foraging adventure led by renowned mushroom expert Gary Goldman. Home to more than 20 species of wild mushrooms, the Delheim forests provide the ideal setting to learn about identification, safe foraging practices, and the hidden diversity of these seasonal treasures.

The day begins with a welcome drink and registration at the Delheim Vat Cellar, followed by an engaging mushroom identification session presented by Goldman. After a warming coffee break, guests will head into the forest for a guided foraging experience, immersing themselves in the sights, scents, and textures of winter in the Stellenbosch mountains. (Please note that, due to the vagaries of nature, the finding of mushrooms cannot be guaranteed.)

Tickets are R550 per person, with each day limited to 30 participants, ensuring an intimate and informative experience. While specific mushroom finds cannot be guaranteed, the journey of discovery and learning promises to be richly rewarding.

Guests are encouraged to dress warmly for winter conditions, wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, and bring along a basket and small pocketknife for collecting.

After the foraging adventure, visitors are welcome to continue the experience at the Delheim Garden Restaurant, where seasonal dishes and award-winning wines offer the perfect way to round off a memorable winter’s day.
