We believe the quality of our wine begins long before the grapes reach the cellar. It begins with where we are. Situated in a glen in the Klein River Mountains, Raka Wines is one of the most southern wineries in Africa. This places us firmly in a cooler climate – but it is more than just latitude.
The Klein River winds its way through our property, creating both north- and south-facing slopes. This natural diversity allows us to plant vineyards across different aspects, each with its own character.
The broader Overberg region is known for its remarkable variety of soil types within short distances. On our farm, this means different soils, different slopes, and the life-giving presence of the river.
On the labels of our premium-tier wines, we have captured this as the flowing line that represents the Klein River as it moves through our land. The blue topographic pattern reflects the heights and contours of our farm – from 58 metres above sea level at the lowest point to 150 metres at the highest vineyards. The topographic blue-green tones also resemble a wave, paying homage to our fishing roots and our connection to the sea.
Agulhas Wine Triangle Festival
For us, terroir is one of the defining aspects that makes Raka wines unique. While we are proud of our place in this remarkable corner of the world, we are not alone. We are members of the Agulhas Wine Triangle – a collection of South Africa’s most southerly wineries.
On 25 April, Agulhas Wine Triangle will host a one-day wine festival where you will have the opportunity to taste wines that all share a geographical distinction and strong sense of place.
Join us for the Agulhas Wine Triangle Festival and experience how location shapes character in every glass.
The festival will be hosted at Lomond on Saturday, 25 April 2026 from 10h00-16h00. Tickets are available via Webtickets.
