Vergelegen is open to visitors, with only Stables closed until further notice after a fire broke out at the restaurant on Tuesday.

Vergelegen is open to visitors, with only Stables restaurant closed until further notice, after Tuesday’s fire. All the other food and beverage outlets and experiences are operating as normal.

Swift reaction by Vergelegen’s firefighting team and those from the City of Cape Town ensured the fire was contained to Stables, although the burning thatch roof resulted in extensive damage to the restaurant. Fortunately, all patrons and staff were safely evacuated, and nobody was hurt. Vergelegen is working with fire investigators to determine the cause.

Vergelegen Managing Director, Wayne Coetzer expressed his gratitude for all the assistance received, saying they have been truly overwhelmed by the extraordinary support shown by their neighbours and the wider community.

It is not yet possible to say when Stables will reopen. Anyone with enquiries about bookings can contact Vergelegen customer services.

Wine tastings, with the popular cheese board offering, are open daily, as is the Rose Terrace Tea Room, Potting Shed Gift Shop and nearby Creamery, which provides ice cream and takeaway coffee.

The play area near Stables is also open. Exciting holiday activities for children includes the ever-popular Easter Egg Hunt on 5 April, with tickets going on sale from 12 March.

Picnics in the Camphor forest are available from 19 March until the end of April.

Other upcoming events include the Harvest Celebration on 25 March, with tickets on sale now.

The gardens, library and manor house are open to explore, and the fauna and flora eco tour, cellar tours, garden tour and sip-and-stroll tasting continue as normal.
