We have decided to reintroduce the Niche Varieties and White Blend Challenges this year to give our industry's innovative niche varietal wines and white blends the spotlight they deserve.
Recently, many South African wine producers have released fantastic new niche varietal wines, and it is vital that we keep consumers informed about what is new in the industry. In today’s financial climate, wine consumers are becoming much more selective about their purchases, and because many retail outlets lack the staff to help them discover interesting niche wines, the need to provide clear, expert recognition is more important than ever.
We also want to bring the focus back to our delicious South African white blends. While the spotlight has moved toward red wines and high-volume white varieties lately, these blends have been pushed into the background. It is time to once again celebrate the incredible Sauvignon Blanc-Semillons and various other blends available in our local market.
