Wine consumption in India is growing steadily, but there can be no talk of a relevant export market for EU wine countries yet.

In light of the impending free trade agreement between India and the EU, two of the leading wine market analysts—the wine market observatory of the Spanish wine federation OIVE as well as Rafael del Rey/Del Rey AWM—have provided current figures on the Indian market and commented on its structure and fundamental importance.

Since the OIVE relies on import figures from Indian Customs in a year-on-year comparison from December 2024 up to and including November 2025, and Del Rey/AWM bases its data on evaluations from exporting countries to India in the period from November 2024 to October 2025, the figures differ slightly. Nevertheless, both come to essentially the same conclusions.

According to this, wine imports to India in the respective 12-month period amounted to 5.65 million liters and a value of €24.9m (OIVE) or 7m liters with a value of €28.3m (Del Rey/AWM).

This corresponds to growth compared to the same period in the previous year of 26% in volume and 9% in value (OIVE) and 24% and 18.8% respectively according to Del Rey/AWM.
