The Spanish vineyard area has fallen to the lowest level since data collection began.

The Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organization (OIVE) reported this on January 28, 2026, after the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) had published the data on vineyard area for wine production in Spain for the year 2025.

According to this, the total area amounted to 889,470 ha (2.20m ac), which corresponds to a decline of 2.4% and 21,612 ha (53,404 ac) in absolute terms compared to 2024. For the first time, the figure is now below 900,000 ha (2.22m ac).

In its long-term analysis, the OIVE stated that 2010 was the last year in which the vineyard area in Spain exceeded 1 million ha (2.47m ac). The comparison with data from the year 1980, the beginning of systematic data collection, shows a decline from this point until 2025 of minus 45.9%.

At that time, the area for grape processing in Spain amounted to 1,642,622 ha (4.06m ac).
