Klawer’s 70th harvest season has kicked off

We raise a glass as Klawer Wine Cellars proudly marks its 70th harvest season in 2026, a milestone in a journey that began in 1956. Klawer started out distilling wine, which turned into winemaking, with Hanepoot among its earliest creations. Today, Klawer offers 23 wines, including six premium labels under the Villa Esposto range.

The harvest season commenced around the third week of January. Farmers are delivering grapes daily, with cultivars such as Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, and Red Muscadel already arriving at the cellar. The fruit is showing excellent quality, promising that the 2026 vintages will be nothing short of exceptional.

What’s new this month?

We’ve added a few more wine tanks to the cellar. These tanks not only expand our capacity but also help us produce wine more efficiently and at an even higher quality.

Behind the scenes

Our cellar team has been hard at work unloading hand-picked grapes from bush vines. Delivered early in the morning to preserve freshness and flavour, these grapes require extra care. Making wine from bush vines is more labour-intensive, but the results are so worth it.

Wine of the month: Villa Esposto Chenin Blanc

The Villa Esposto Chenin Blanc takes centre stage this February. Crafted from dryland bush vine, it embodies the dedication behind our premium Villa Esposto range. Expect bright citrus and subtle vanilla notes, perfect alongside seafood or chicken dishes.

Community spotlight

We’re proud to support local restaurants by sharing our wine knowledge. This month, Namaqua Lodge and Melkboomsdrift joined our training sessions. Both establishments are popular during the flower season, and we hope this training enhances the wine experience for their guests. Our goal is to give waiters the confidence to talk about wine.

Celebrations

We celebrated two special milestones this month:

  • Our CEO's birthday, Mr. Andries Blake, marking nearly 13 years at Klawer Cellars and basically a lifetime in the wine industry
  • To our lady in logistics, Mrs. Lochner, happy birthday, and thank you for 23 years
