The wine outlook might be dark, but there are occasional rays of sunshine breaking through, according to our data.

Despite the unprecedented doom and gloom surrounding the global wine industry, there are still reasons to be cheerful – and more of them than you might think.

A trawl through Wine-Searcher's database – the largest repository of data about wine and spirits on the internet – shows that, even as the storms of economic headwinds wreak havoc across the industry, there are more people searching for wine. It is much more widely available and, best of all, the wines available are actually getting better.

If it wasn't for the dire threat of falling consumption, there would be an argument to be made that wine has never had it so good. Certainly, the data suggests a more robust level of health than the media stories would have you believe. Yes, there are existential threats to the wine industry, but there are also green shoots of possible recovery.

The first cause for hope is the increase in searches across 2025.

Anyone who thinks wine is on its last legs should tell our users, who performed more searches last year than in 2024. Granted, the rise wasn't huge – around 2 percent – but it is at least moving in the right direction.

The US maintained its traditional dominance in the search sphere, accounting for around 45 percent of all searches. That's up by 2.1 percent on last year. Other substantial growth regions included Brazil (up 18.1 percent), Canada (up 8.7 percent) and Mexico, which had a massive 33 percent hike in search volumes.
