Vergelegen
Vergelegen received three five-star ratings and a Highly Recommended accolade in the Platter's South African Wine Guide 2026.

Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West is celebrating outstanding recognition in the newly released 46th edition of Platter's by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2026, with three Five-Star wines and one Highly Recommended accolade, placing the estate firmly among South Africa's most prestigious producers.

The Five-Star ratings – awarded to wines that score 95 points or more – have been presented to the Vergelegen Estate Red 2022, Vergelegen V 2021, and the Vergelegen Estate White 2024. In addition, the V 2022 earned a Highly Recommended rating, recognising it as a top-performing 94-point wine.

A Five-Star accolade is reserved for wines described by Platter’s as “Superlative. A South African classic.” This distinction reflects the highest level of quality, determined through rigorous tastings. It also signifies the international benchmark the ratings have become: Five-Star wines are not only celebrated locally but held in high regard across global markets.

The 2026 guide, released on 19 November, showcases the depth of South African winemaking excellence. Platter’s team of 15 seasoned tasters evaluated nearly 8 000 wines, ultimately identifying 316 Five-Star wines and brandies, along with more than 430 Highly Recommended bottlings scoring 94 points.

Vergelegen’s impressive results underscore its commitment to world-class winemaking, and offer another reason to explore its exceptional portfolio.

The Highly Recommended V2022 is in stock for R2000/bottle. The Estate Red 2022 and Estate White 2024 are still to be released. However, the Estate Red 2021 currently retails at R550/bottle and the Estate White 2023 at R375/bottle.
