As the first wine farm in the country to plant Zinfandel, Blaauwklippen Vineyards laid the foundation for a variety that would become synonymous with innovation, perseverance, and craftsmanship. Today, Blaauwklippen remains a leader in the Zinfandel story; the authority in the variety and a proud pioneer in shaping its legacy on South African soil.
“Our journey with Zinfandel is deeply personal,” says winemaker Narina Cloete. “It's a true privilege and honour to be a part of this amazing chapter in Blaauwklippen's Zinfandel legacy. Zinfandel is and will forever be a varietal that’s close to my heart, as it takes special craft and care to create the perfect vintage.”
Our journey with Zinfandel has been one of courage and conviction. We are the only farm in Africa to produce a 100% Zinfandel Cap Classique, a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and our deep understanding of this extraordinary cultivar. With every vintage, we bring decades of experience, intuition, and passion to the cellar, an evolution that honours where we come from while embracing where we are going.
This philosophy is encapsulated in our guiding words: Then. Now. Forever.
A tribute to our heritage, a celebration of our present craft, and a promise to the future.
Founded in 1682, Blaauwklippen stands as one of the oldest wine farms and the first registered company in South Africa, yet our story is far from finished. With The House of Zin, we open a new chapter in a legacy that continues to grow stronger with every passing vintage.
The inaugural release under this new banner is a 100% Zinfandel Rosé, elegantly wrapped in a label that tells our story through artistry and time. The design plays on the evolution of typography to reflect our journey across centuries:
- The “Z” evokes vintage vine-inspired lettering, symbolizing our deep-rooted heritage.
- The “I”, presented as a contemporary serif cut-out, offers a window into the present; the wine held within the bottle.
- The “N” looks forward in a forward-thinking, futuristic typeface, representing what is still to come.
This label is not merely packaging; it is a narrative.
It is the story of the oldest wine farm and first registered company in South Africa.
It is the story of the country’s only 100% Zinfandel Rosé as well as 100% Zinfandel Cap Classique.
It is the story of a farm whose heritage is so profound, and whose future is so promising, that stepping back has never been part of its character.
With The House of Zin, Blaauwklippen reaffirms its place as the custodian of Zinfandel in South Africa. Honouring then, celebrating now, and crafting with purpose into forever.
We are The House of Zin.
And the journey continues, then, now, and forever.
