2024 Champions Mauritius is holding the Trophy. Would South Africa, Kenya, or Zimbabwe be able to win it?
Sommeliers will compete in teams representing SA, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Mauritius, taking on challenges that test speed, precision, creativity, and knowledge. Think pairing vegan meals with the perfect wine, mastering a magnum of champagne across 18 glasses without a spill, or identifying beverages from across the globe, including wine, sake, coffee, teas, and even kombucha.
“A sommelier isn’t just about wine; it’s about creating an experience,” says Jean Vincent Ridon, founder of the Sommeliers Academy.
“We entertain guests, pair drinks with food, and make people feel part of the culture, whether they drink alcohol or not.”
The Ubuntu Trophy is about teamwork and continental pride. Past editions have seen fierce but friendly competition, with winners crowned by international judges to ensure world-class standards. This year promises even more flair, with Kenya joining the fray and Mauritius bringing last year’s winning momentum.
