Steenberg Vineyards in Constantia, the oldest wine region in South Africa and the birthplace of local winemaking, is redefining wine tasting with the launch of its new tasting room menu.
Designed to be more than just a tasting, the refreshed menu transforms each experience into a journey of storytelling, education, and discovery. By combining the rich history of Constantia with Steenberg's pioneering spirit, every guest is invited to explore not only the wines in their glass but also the legacy of the land and people who brought them to life.
"Our goal is to create memorable, interactive experiences that go beyond the ordinary," says Carryn Wiltshire, Marketing Manager at Steenberg Vineyards. "We want our visitors to leave feeling enriched as if they've learned something new about our wines, our estate, and the Constantia region, while also having enjoyed a truly special time with us."
The new tasting menu offers a diverse range of options that cater to different palates and levels of curiosity:
- Bubbly Glass Exploration (R230 pp | 60 minutes)
A sparkling showcase featuring Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, 1682 Chardonnay Cap Classique, and 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique paired with an exploration of how stemware shapes the tasting experience.
- Sense of Sauvignon (R210 pp | 60 minutes)
A journey through Steenberg's celebrated Sauvignon Blancs, from Sparkling to Barrel Ferment, placing Constantia within the global Sauvignon conversation.
- Curate Your Own (R250 pp | 60 minutes)
A personalised tasting of four wines of your choice, guided by a wine ambassador with a focus on terroir and winemaking philosophy.
- Cool Climate Excellence (R250 pp | 60 minutes)
A tasting of four wines (Sauvignon Blanc, Black Swan, Merlot and Catharina) designed to illustrate the unique influence of Constantia's cool climate.
- Artisan Pairing (R230 pp | 60 minutes)
A flavour-driven exploration of Steenberg's artisanal wines (Barrel Ferment Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Nebbiolo), each with a beautifully presented flavour pairing.
For those seeking deeper immersion, Steenberg offers appointment-only experiences that blend vineyard, cellar, and storytelling elements:
- Icon Tasting (R1075 pp | 90 minutes)
Held in a private venue within the winery, this experience is an exclusive journey into Steenberg's most prestigious wines (Lady R Cap Classique, Black Swan, Magna Carta, and Catharina) enjoyed alongside a cheese and charcuterie board, with stories of Catharina Ras, Steenberg's trailblazing founder.
- Vineyard Experience (R495 pp | 90 minutes)
A guided 30-minute walk through the vineyards, where guests discover regenerative farming practices, terroir, and vineyard design, followed by the Cool Climate Excellence tasting.
- Cellar Experience (R505 pp | 90 minutes)
An insider's tour of Steenberg's white wine and barrel cellars, unpacking the winemaking process and the role of barrel ageing, before enjoying a curated tasting.
Each of these exclusive tastings requires at least 48 hours' advance booking and is subject to seasonal conditions and operational requirements.
