Crafted with extraordinary passion and care by winemaker Morné Vrey, together with viticulturist Kallie Fernhout and the Estate’s winemaking team, the Laurence Graff Reserve remains one of the New World’s most highly regarded and sought-after wines, consistently selling out its en primeur allocation.
Founded in 1960, in London by Laurence Graff OBE, owner of Delaire Graff Estate, Graff was born from a fascination with the emotional power of diamonds and gemstones – a devotion that established the House as a global symbol of innovation and excellence. Just as diamonds are formed under immense pressure deep beneath the Earth's surface, their flawless brilliance revealed by Graff’s master artisans, every grape within our vineyards is shaped by Mother Nature, carrying a unique story – one that only a master winemaker can bring to life.
A testament to its award-winning characteristics, earlier this year, the Laurence Graff Reserve 2021 received an outstanding 96 points in the Tim Atkin South Africa Special Report 2025.
Located on the lower slopes of the Estate’s vineyards, vibrant red soils produce smaller berries, resulting in a more concentrated and intense flavour. The region’s distinctive character is exemplified by subtle hints of mint and indigenous fynbos, while a captivating earthiness and refined tannic structure are characteristic of the Banghoek Valley’s rich soil.
Each grape was handpicked and sorted, followed by whole berry fermentation and basket pressing to ensure a gentle extraction of fruit.
Created with patience and careful restraint, the wine was then matured in 60% new French oak barrels for 18 months. A rigorous selection process identified only the finest barrels, each one displaying a specific character from the cooper who made it, qualities which are evident within the vintage’s final flavour profile.
The nose is characterised by freshness and spice, vanilla pod, dark chocolate and hay aromas. Silky and smooth on entry, the wine has a flinty minerality with subtle tannins and huge length and persistence.
Tangy, ripe, almost over-ripe red berries, together with classic flavours of brambles and cassis, dominate the profile.
Often named one of the world’s leading art collectors, Laurence Graff has transformed Delaire Graff Estate into a globally renowned art destination. Paying homage to this legacy, the launch of the Laurence Graff Reserve 2021 is accompanied by a striking visual campaign inspired by the mixed media portraits created by Alexis Peskine. Using nails of various gauges, hammered with precision into wood, the nails feature gold leaf accents, creating breathtaking composite images.
