In addition to this remarkable debut, Simonsig was also awarded a standout eight Gold medals for the following wines:
- Kaapse Vonkel Brut 2021
- Kaapse Vonkel Brut 2024
- Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé 2023
- Tiara 2020
- Tiara 2015
- Pick of the Bunch Pinotage 2023
- Redhill Pinotage 2021
- Chenin Blanc Pinotage Rosé 2025 (made exclusively for Woolworths)
Of these, four are either made from Pinotage or prominently feature the variety in their blend, a fitting tribute in a year that celebrates 100 years of Pinotage in South Africa and 55 years of Pinotage at Simonsig.
Adding to this momentous occasion, Johan Malan was honoured with the Veritas Living Legend Scroll of Honour, recognising his lifelong contribution to the local wine industry. As Simonsig’s co-owner and former Cellarmaster, Johan represents the second generation of the Malan family to carry forward the estate’s pioneering spirit.
First established in 1991, the Veritas Awards remains South Africa’s longest-running wine competition and is considered by many to be one of the most-respected and prestigious, celebrating excellence across the wine and brandy industries.
“These accolades are a reflection of our team’s passion and craftsmanship,” says Johan Malan. “To see our new brandy recognised with Double Gold and to achieve such strong results across our wines – particularly in this milestone year for Pinotage – is deeply rewarding.”
