Summer has arrived in Tulbagh, bringing long sunny days, warm evenings, and a fresh burst of energy across the farm. The vineyards are thriving, the cellar is buzzing, and our guesthouse is the ideal spot to soak it all in with a glass of Chenin in hand.
Here’s what’s been happening this month at Rijk's Wine Estate.
In the vineyards
We’ve completed the thinning of the vines, removing excess shoots and bunches to allow the plant to channel its energy into fewer, healthier clusters. This sets the foundation for greater flavour concentration, balance, and quality in the wines to come.
Flowering is now underway and the vineyards are in bloom; a key moment in the growing season. With ideal warm weather and calm conditions, we are optimistic about fruit set and excited for the promising vintage that lies ahead.
Reflecting on Pinotage Month
As October comes to a close, we celebrate the final days of Pinotage Month — a time that always reminds us of how deeply this variety is woven into our story. Pinotage remains at the heart of who we are, and we are truly honoured to have shared tastings, conversations, and memorable moments with so many of you.
Your support and enthusiasm for this proudly South African cultivar continue to inspire us, and we look forward to raising many more glasses together as we carry its legacy forward.

Thank you for being part of the Rijk’s journey. We look forward to welcoming you this summer: In the tasting room, at the cellar, or through the wines you open and share at your table.
