Difficult to choose? It seems that the choice of potjie can be quite the topic of debate!
Chef Christiaan prefers a flat bottom because of its versatility. "There is no denying the charm of a traditional potjie with its boeppensie on three legs, but the flat-bottom pot or Dutch oven is just more versatile as I can use it in the oven on the gas top and I even bake bread in mine."
Cellarmaster Renier prefers to do his cooking on the open fire and therefore his choice is the 3-leg potjie. "I love that it can stand directly in the coals, the rings on the side guide me when it comes to portion size, as I tend to over-cater and I just love its cuteness factor!"
(Did you know that the number of rings on a traditional potjie multiplied by the size of your potjie, indicates the number of servings? A size 3 pot with 4 rings around it, roughly caters for 12 guests.)
