Celebrate heritage

Celebrate heritage, legacy and family with our curated Shiraz tasting at Klein Alto.

Join us for an exclusive tasting experience that honours tradition, legacy, and the evolution of Alto Shiraz, one of our most celebrated varieties.

This limited father-and-son tasting offers a rare opportunity to explore a vertical selection of Shiraz, crafted by both our current winemaker, Bertho van der Westhuizen, and his father, Schalk van der Westhuizen, who preceded him. The featured wines include a magnum tasting of Shiraz 2010 and the Shiraz 2013 made by Schalk, tasted alongside our current release, Shiraz 2019.

The tasting is available from Wednesday 24 September to Sunday 28 September in celebration of Heritage Day and costs R120 per person.

An unforgettable tasting where heritage meets innovation, and every glass tells a story.

In the vineyards

This season, we are establishing over 12 hectares of new plantings including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot vines.

Each new vine is more than a planting; it is a long-term commitment to the future of winemaking at Alto.

As Altus van Lill, our viticulturist, explains: “Being involved in planting vines means contributing to a living legacy that connects the past to the present. It is a privilege to be part of the planting that will have a direct impact on the future wines of Alto.”

We eagerly look forward to the first harvest from these young vines in the years to come, knowing they will play an important role in shaping Alto’s legacy for generations ahead.
