A legacy in every vintage

This vertical selection carries not only the story of three remarkable harvests, but also the legacy of a family’s winemaking journey.

The 2013 and 2014 vintages were both crafted by Bertho’s dad, Schalk van der Westhuizen, whose craftmanship helped shape Alto’s reputation as one of the most esteemed red wine producers in South Africa. The 2015 vintage holds a special place in our history, not only was it one of the most exceptional years for Stellenbosch Cabernet, but it was also the final vintage Bertho and his dad made together before Schalk’s retirement.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

An elegant expression with aromas of violets, black olives and dark chocolate. The palate is full bodied with a good tannic structure and hints of tobacco on the finish. The 2013 vintage was awarded with a Veritas silver and is an astounding representation of the collectability of our wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Deep and intense in colour, this wine presents a concentrated bouquet of red fruit, dark chocolate and graphite. The palate is rich and layered with elegant, refined tannins and a powerful finish. Our 2014 vintage was awarded with a gold by both Veritas and the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Celebrated as one our greatest vintages, this wine showcases beautiful dark fruits, cedarwood and subtle fynbos notes on the nose. The palate is structured, yet graceful with an exceptional balance of power and finesse. Awarded 93 points by acclaimed international critic Tim Atkin, the 2015 captures the essence of Alto’s terroir and the artistry of two generations of winemakers.
