Winter work in the Rijks Wine Estate vineyards is nearly complete, and the team is making great progress.
All of our Pinotage blocks have been carefully pruned, and we are now busy with the Chenin Blanc.
Each cut marks the start of a new cycle, setting the foundation for healthy growth in the months to come.

As part of our pruning process, we apply Trichoderma to the freshly pruned vines. Trichoderma is a natural fungus that protects against wood-infecting diseases by colonising pruning wounds and strengthening vine health. It’s a biological solution that not only safeguards the vines but also encourages stronger, more resilient growth.
Using Trichoderma reflects our commitment to sustainable farming practices – choosing natural methods that work in harmony with the vineyard environment.
Meanwhile, the cover crops are flourishing across the farm, with fields of lupins bursting into vibrant purple flowers. Their role is vital too – enriching the soil, attracting beneficial insects, and protecting the young shoots.
This week, we have also started rolling the cover crops flat, allowing them to return their goodness to the soil as they break down.

With bud burst just around the corner, we look forward to another season filled with promise and the anticipation of a successful harvest ahead.
As the vineyards prepare for a new season, we invite you to share in the journey with us.
