Known for his unwavering commitment to Dry Land viticulture, Joseph believed that vines grown under natural rainfall conditions produce wines of greater depth, purity, and character.
Joseph’s Legacy is more than just a wine – it’s a continuation of his vision. This bold yet refined Rhône-style blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault is crafted from carefully selected barrels, ensuring only the finest expression of the 2023 vintage makes it into the bottle.
The 2023 vintage
Nature gave us an early start, an unusually dry spring followed by much-needed rain in December. The cool growing season nurtured slow, even ripening, and the harvest began 10 days earlier than the year before under perfect conditions. The result? Fruit with incredible intensity, balanced acidity, and a natural elegance that only Dry Land vines can deliver.
Perfection in the cellar
Grapes from 25-year-old vines rooted in decomposed granite, Glenrosa, and Malmesbury shale were hand-selected at 25° Balling. After gentle de-stemming and sorting, a two-day cold maceration teased out colour and flavour before fermentation in stainless steel. The wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% new, to enhance structure and complexity, followed by 12-18 months of bottle ageing.

Deep ruby in colour, Joseph’s Legacy opens with aromas of black pepper, dried spice, and hints of cherry, red berries, and vanilla. The palate is a masterclass in balance, layered with spice and fruit, structured yet elegant, with silky tannins and a lingering finish.
