Join celebrated musician and conductor Richard Cock for an evening of entertainment and insight at the historic Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West on Thursday, 10 July 2025.
Titled "Conduct Unbecoming", Cock’s engaging and anecdote-filled talk promises to lift the lid on the secrets, surprises, and personalities behind the conductor’s baton.
According to Cock, “Orchestral conductors work by an amalgam of psychology, magic and a storehouse of knowledge about music, people and how to get the best out of a collection of highly trained, highly individualistic, and highly strung people, all thrown together in a powder-keg that is the orchestra.”
Cock has long been a friend of Vergelegen: for two decades, he has hosted the popular Starlight Classics concerts at the 325-year-old estate, making this evening a special homecoming.
Guests will be welcomed at 18h00 with a glass of Vergelegen Heritage wine, followed by the hour-long talk in the estate’s cosy library, a treasure trove of over 4,500 books. Guests will then linger over a two-course winter menu and fine wines, in a fireside setting that blends warmth and elegance at Stables Restaurant.
