The mornings are crisp, the mountains covered in mist, and the vineyards are enjoying their much-needed rest. Our dams are filling up nicely after this week’s rain – something we’re always grateful for as farmers. While things may seem quieter above ground, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes on the farm.
In the cellar, we’ve welcomed a set of brand new Nico Velo concrete tanks – a beautiful addition that marks an exciting step forward in the way we approach our winemaking. These vessels offer a unique opportunity to further refine our style, and we’re looking forward to seeing how they shape the wines in the vintages to come.

Meanwhile, the Rijk's 2025 vintage is quietly doing what it needs to do – resting, settling, and slowly beginning its journey. We’ve tasted through the wines, and the vintage is already showing great promise. It’s always a rewarding time of year to check in with the wines and see their character starting to emerge.
Out in the vineyards, the cover crops are blooming beautifully. These aren’t just pretty to look at – they play a crucial role in protecting and enriching our soils during the dormant season. From building organic matter to preventing erosion, they quietly support the health and future of our vines.
As part of our long-term vision for the farm, we’ve recently removed one of our older vineyard blocks. This decision wasn’t taken lightly, but it gives the soil a chance to rest and rejuvenate before we begin replanting. Plans are already underway for the next phase of planting – thoughtful choices that will shape the future of our wines.

Thanks for staying connected with us as the farm rests, reflects, and prepares for what’s next. Winter might be quiet, but it’s full of purpose.
