The Investec Trophy Wine Show stands as South Africa's most prestigious wine competition, dedicated to identifying the top echelon of wines produced in the country. For over two decades, the show has played a pivotal role in elevating the standard and international profile of South African wine through a rigorous and independent judging process.
Journey’s End is thrilled to have been awarded the Museum Class Trophy for their Destination Chardonnay 2016.
The Destination is the pinnacle of white winemaking at Journey’s End. Rich and full entry throughout. The nose exhibits concentrated apricot and ripe peach with layers of lime zest and orange. The fruit component is complimented by well-balanced almond and vanilla spice from generous oak aging. Minerality ensures freshness and adds linearity to a long-lasting creamy finish.
“Aged perfectly in our underground cellars, we happened to taste the Destination Chardonnay recently and were blown-away”, says cellarmaster Leon Esterhuizen, “we just had to enter into the Museum Class category, and it paid off!”
Not only were Journey’s End winners in the Museum Class category they were also awarded 92 points V2 Merlot 2018 and 90 points V1 Chardonnay 2023, made by head winemaker Michael Dawson who celebrates 10 years at Journey’s End this year.
Rollo Gabb, managing director of Journey’s End, “we have always focused on building real wines that age well and this award is a real testament to that. Do look for new and exciting wines coming from our vineyard.”
About Journey’s End
Nestled on the scenic, south-facing slopes of the Schapenberg hills in Stellenbosch, Journey's End wine estate is a premium South African winemaking and ethical enterprise. Owned by the Gabb family since 1995, the estate benefits from the unique terroir of 350-million-year-old decomposed granite soils and the cooling "Cape Doctor" wind from nearby False Bay, creating exceptional conditions for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines, particularly Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietals.
Journey's End is known not only by its award-winning wines like 'The Cape Doctor' and 'Destination' Chardonnay but also by its profound commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. The farm is the first South African winery and vineyard to be B-Corp Certified, is Fairtrade certified, converted to solar power in 2014, and is recognized as a WWF Conservation Champion. Furthermore, through the Journey's End Foundation, the estate actively supports the local Sir Lowry's Pass community, most notably by providing over 6 million meals to date through its soup kitchen network, firmly embedding a philosophy of being a "force for good" into its operations.
