Meet the tasting room staff

Meet the friendly faces at our tasting room at Flagstone Wines:
Ilze Fouché: The experienced and passionate manager of the Flagstone tasting room, with nearly three decades of wine experience, she gets to share her love for wine with the Flagstone customers.
Johann Neetling: "I grew up in the beautiful Boland towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl and have been involved in the wine industry for the past 25 years focussing mainly on sales and marketing activities. My current position is as Assistant Cellar Door Manager, and my favourite Flagstone wine is our Treaty Tree Classique Bourdeaux Red blend. When I’m not at work you will find me out and about enjoying all that nature offers such as hiking, swimming, and body boarding, as well as spending some quality time with family and friends in front of the braai fire sampling some good quality wines and listening to good music."
Johan Verdoes: "After Matric I went on an adventure gap year which equipped me with various personal and interpersonal skills. I then played guitar in a traveling band for almost 2 years. Now I find myself at Flagstone, expanding my knowledge about wine while studying business management online."
Michaela Prince: "The greater the struggle, the better the stories. I'm passionate about stories of wine and people, and mine started at an urban winery called Flagstone in 2021. What is your story?"
CJ Marais: "After matric, I studied commercial photography in Stellenbosch before joining Flagstone as a tasting room assistant. Now, I get to do both! Pouring wine and capturing the magic behind every bottle of Flagstone as the social media manager."
Led by our passionate manager, Ilze Fouche, our team is dedicated to making your visit memorable. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or new to the world of wine, we're here to guide you through our diverse selection and share the stories behind each bottle. Come by and say hello. We're excited to share our love for wine with you!
Word from our winemaker, Gerhard Swart

They say time flies when you are having fun. Well, then we are having a lot of fun here at Flagstone! We have just completed our 4th week of harvest, and I can honestly say the last week has been brutal.
The vintage started on 27 January 2025 with the early varieties ripening on normal time or just slightly late. Then February hit us with constant dry and warm to very warm and even blistering hot conditions. This has resulted in the late ripening varieties coming on much faster and now we have the perfect storm with all varieties ripe at once. It's been a scramble to cover over three thousand kilometres in the last two weeks to make the correct picking decisions, and very long hours for all of us in the winery.
We are still going strong. Although sleep deprived with aching muscles, the team’s spirit is still high at 69% grapes picked and crushed. In the 17 years that I have been making wine, this will be the first time that we will be almost done with harvest before March!
Currently, I am very positive about the quality in the winery and although it was very dry and warm, this has resulted in very healthy grapes coming into the cellar.
This week we picked our last Pinotage and we started picking Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The last of the Sauvignon Blanc came in from Walker Bay region and we are almost done picking all our Old Vine Chenin Blanc blocks with the last one in Darling having been picked on Wednesday.
That is it for now from a very busy cellar.
Cheers,
Gerhard Swart
