Celebrating 10 years with Chef Kerry Kilpin

Steenberg celebrates a decade of collaboration with Kerry Kilpin, affectionately known as "Chef Kerry," whose influence has been pivotal in crafting our culinary experiences since 2014. In the last ten years, Chef Kerry has led remarkable achievements, transforming restaurant concepts and championing sustainability efforts.

Chef Kerry joined our Steenberg family as Executive Chef of Bistro Sixteen82 in November 2014. In 2018, she became Executive Chef for Steenberg Farm, managing both Bistro Sixteen82 and Catharina's (later rebranded as Tryn). She has spearheaded team leadership, revitalised menus, and guaranteed that the estate's dining experiences embody both our rich heritage and innovative spirit.

She played a pivotal role in the transformation of Catharina's into Tryn Restaurant, which proudly opened its doors in 2019. Chef Kerry expertly aligned the restaurant's identity with Steenberg's evolving vision, crafting a modern dining space that pays homage to our estate's rich history.

Chef Kerry's culinary philosophy is deeply rooted in her farm upbringing and shaped by her professional journey. Having achieved a Grande Diplôme from Silwood School of Cookery, she honed her skills at esteemed restaurants such as La Colombe and The Foodbarn, working alongside Chef Franck Dangereux. Her journeys through Thailand, France, and Spain have profoundly influenced her approach, seamlessly integrating global inspirations with a dedication to seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

At the heart of Chef Kerry's work lies a commitment to sustainability. Her role was instrumental in establishing Steenberg's collaboration with Abalobi, a program that links small-scale fishers with chefs to create a transparent seafood supply chain.

A personal reflection: "Reaching this milestone is a moment of reflection and gratitude," says Chef Kerry. "Steenberg has been a significant part of my life and growth as a chef. The opportunities to innovate, mentor, and collaborate have been deeply rewarding.”

Steenberg Jazz Festival: A magical evening of jazz under the stars
