Not-to-be-missed winter wines and experiences at Haute Cabrière

Haute Cabrière
In the Cape Winelands, winter announced its arrival with back-to-back cold fronts early July. With the storms passed, the weather remains chilly (perfect for the dormancy of our vines).

Winter wines and experiences at Haute Cabrière

At Haute Cabrière, we've created our wines to be enjoyed through out the year, in any weather. From the heights of summer heat, to the current snow-capped peaks, there is a wine from our cellar to enjoy. This season, we're serving the Chardonnays without ice and a little warmer, and of course the Pinot Noirs are shining in this weather too.

From hearty stews with our Arnim Family Réserve, to pizza nights with friends sharing a bottle of Chardonnay Pinot Noir, to winter braais with the Pinot Noir Unwooded – find your perfect wine with our ranges.

Winter experiences at our cellar

Join us in Franschhoek for epic views over the slumbering vines while you dine and cosy fire-side wine tastings in our underground cellar...
  • Cosy and warm wine tasting: Heated by grand fireplaces, stay cosy this winter in our cellar while exploring our ranges with guided wine tastings, delicious platters, and big glasses.
  • All-weather views at the restaurant: Our enclosed terrace offers the perfect vantage point to enjoy the dramatic valley views, while keeping warm and enjoying our seasonal menu with paired wines from our cellar.
  • Make a day of it and explore more: Colder temperatures mean coffee and pastry weather, so pop in to our bakery. You can also tour the cellar before your wine tasting, or hop on board the Wine Tram for an all-day experience!

Winter dining: Cellar master's lunch

Until 31 August, come and enjoy our special winter dining experience during the week. Join us for a glass of our pioneering wine blends and seasonal dishes. The cost is R295 per person for 1 course with a glass of wine.

Old Vine Day

Every year on 1 August, South Africa celebrates its Old Vine wines.

"Old vines make wines with a unique character. Wines that reflect the vastness of our South African landscape – our harsh climate, our old and sometimes fragile soils, and our complex culture," states the Old Vine Project (OVP).

For Haute Cabrière, the oldest block of Chardonnay on our estate was planted in 1983. We are one of just four OVP certified Chardonnay producers in South Africa and the only Certified Old Vine Chardonnay in Franschhoek.

Old Old Vine wines:

  • Haute Collection Chardonnay
  • Haute Collection Amphora Chardonnay

“It’s no surprise to me that a significant number of my wines and winemakers of the year have an old vine connection, confirming how vital the old vine project is to the South African wine industry and why the country’s heritage vineyards are so unique." - Tim Atkin MW
