Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
Registration and online entries opened on 1 June for the inaugural South Africa Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

But why enter?

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) is one of the world's most established and respected wine and spirits competitions, currently in its 31st year.

Early in 2024, CMB appointed Lorraine Immelman to establish and manage a national competition in South Africa, supported by their prestigious branding and outstanding reputation.

Entering this exciting competition will not only create unique opportunities for local producers to showcase their products on local and international markets, but also position our South African products on a global platform,” says Lorraine.

CMB’s judges are professional tasters, but they are also retail and hospitality buyers, journalists and oenologists who add real marketing support for awarded products.

Included in this year’s judging panel are:

  • James Posthumus: Senior liquor buyer at Woolworths South Africa
  • Katie Bailie: Senior wine buyer at Woolworths South Africa
  • Thomas Hostettler: Procurement director of SPAR and TCCSwitzerland
  • Manuel Negrete: Sommelier and wine director at Wine Bar by CMB Mexico
  • Kurt Schlechter: Voted #46 among the world’s most influential individuals in the liquor industry and mastermind behind the CauseEffect concept in Cape Town
  • Petri Houweling: Editor in chief of Winelife in Netherlands
  • Mare-Loe Prinsloo: Head of intrinsic research at Heineken Beverages
  • Mark Philp: Cape Wine Master

Our partners and sponsors include companies such as Getwine, South Africa’s premium on-line wine sales platform, ensuring extensive exposure to their network of consumers.

What gives CMB the edge, is that the competition offers entrants and winners real value, including:

  • valuable feedback from the judging panels on every product entered and tasted, including an Aroma Wheel and a detailed analysis with actionable insights.
  • the Wine and Spirits Experience by CMB concept currently has Wine Bars and Wine Corners in various cities and airports around the world (including Mexico City and Tokyo). These tasting venues are exclusive venues for CMB medal-winning wines, including South Africa;
  • the CMB media team gives exposure to awarded products at international wine shows and events such as Prowein, Wine Paris-Vinexpo, Vinitaly and Guiyang.
  • It is significant that all CMB competitions are meticulously audited by the Service Public Fédéralbelge de l’Economie (SPFE), while CMB also adheres to the strict competition rules set forth by the European Union.
